At HotSpring Hot Tubs we know how important it is to have clean water and we have prepared this series of articles to help customers understand how to maintain water quality so that they can get the best ownership experience out of their hot tub.
Water maintenance is one of the least understood, yet most important, areas of your hot tub water care. Maintaining the water quality in your hot tub is very important to ensure that is always ready when you want to use it.
The three fundamental areas of Hot Tub Water Care:
- Water Filtration
- Chemical Balance/pH Control
- Water Sanitisation
Hot tub water care and sanitisation is achieved through the regular and periodic (daily, if necessary) addition of an approved sanitiser. The sanitiser will chemically control the bacteria and viruses present in the fill water or introduced during use of the hot tub. Bacteria and viruses can grow quickly in under sanitised water. The water’s chemical balance and pH control are important to maintain. You will have to add chemicals to maintain proper levels of Total Alkalinity (TA), Calcium Hardness (CH) and pH. Proper water balance and pH control will minimise scale buildup and corrosion of metals, extend the life of the hot tub and allow the sanitiser to work at maximum efficiency.
Hot Tub Water Testing
Accurate water testing and analysis are an important part of effectively maintaining your hot tub water. You must have the ability to test for:
- Total Alkalinity (TA)
- Calcium Hardness (CH)
- pH
- Sanitizer
Two types of testing methods are recommended by HotSpring Hot Tubs for hot tub water care: – The Reagent Test kit is a method which provides a high level of accuracy. The reagents come in either liquid or tablet form. – Test Strips are a convenient testing method used by many spa owners. Keep in mind that test strips are susceptible to heat and moisture contamination, which will result in inaccurate readings. Buy Hot Tub Test Strips in our online shop.
Important: Always read and carefully follow the directions included with the Test Kit or Test Strips to ensure the accuracy of the test results.
